فوزي بسايشي • Faouzi Saichi
Fawzi B. Saichi (Arabic: فوزي بسايشي), born April 9, 1951 in Aïn Sefra, Algeria, is an Algerian actor. He is nicknamed "Rmimez" after his character in Djamel Bendeddouche's 1986 film "The Adventures of Rmimez." Fawzi has lived in Algiers since the age of 6 and made his first film appearance in Sid Ali Mazif's 1977 film "Leïla and the Others." With Rabah Laradji's 1982 film "Un Toit, Une Famille," written by Rachid Benallal, he won the Best Actor Award at the Carthage Film Festival in Tunisia. In 1986, Djamel Bendeddouche directed "The Adventures of Rmimez (مغامرات رميمز)," a musical film starring Ouardia Hamitouche and Faouzi Saichi, who performs "Rmimez" in a series of music videos, somewhere between dream and reality, meeting various figures from the young Algerian music scene of the mid-1980s. "Rmimez" would become the nickname that would follow him throughout his career. A key actor in Algerian cinema, Fawzi was also sought after by foreign filmmakers and went on to star in more than twenty television and film productions, including "Les Folles Années Du Twist" (1986), "De Hollywood à Tamanrasset" (1991), "Beur Blanc Rouge" (2006) by Mahmoud Zemmouri, "La Route d'Istanbul" by Rachid Bouchareb (2016), and others. In 2015, a tribute was paid to him in his presence and that of many Algerian cinema figures at the Kateb Yacine Regional Theater in Tizi-Ouzou. Fawzi Saïchi passed away on September 29, 2025. Algeria lost a popular artist, both respected by his colleagues and adored by the public. Through his talent, he was able to portray memorable characters and convey the soul of a national cinema seeking recognition.
