There obviously wasn’t much of a budget behind this, but it’s still quite an effective showcase of just how unnerving sounds can be when we can’t explain them, or even when we can - but don’t believe our eyes over our ears! It’s a ghost story, of sorts, that follows a young journalist (Freya Wackford) who is trying to get to the bottom of a long-established and creepy mystery in a Cornish seaside town. Her investigations lead to an interview with the enigmatic “Captain” (Ben Stafford) who suggests that there is much more to the noises from the sea at night than just the tides coming in and out. Is she likely to get to the bottom of things? I reckon that’s not the point, it really is all about the power of acoustics as influences and at just how dependent we are on light to enable our eyes to convince and reassure us, or not. It asks a few questions, answers none of them and is probably ten minutes longer than it needs to be - but it’s quite intensely photographed and is curiously intriguing at times. Cinematographically very basic, but worth a watch.
